Special Emergency Services is a medical insurance/evacuation company here in Zambia and I was super excited to get a call from them a few months ago asking if we could put a shoot together to provide photography for their new website and marketing materials as well as for wall art for their brand new offices.
My mind raced with the possibilities and I began putting forward ever crazier ideas that included helicopters, planes and very large waterfalls. To my initial surprise they actually agreed to a few of them and my wonderful producer Jo and I, jumped on a plane with about a million kilos of gear and headed for Livingstone.
This was a high-pressure shoot; hiring a large helicopter and crew is expensive and we would have exactly one hour with it. With the staff, security and gear we had to fly deep into the gorge this would eventually leave us with about 5-10 minutes to shoot scenes with the helicopter. We also had to time a meeting with a white water rafting team in the gorge who would provide our ‘victim’ for the shoot. This meant we had only one go at this.
